Branches of the Society
In 1910, the Society expanded by opening branches in Madras, followed by Nagpur and Bombay in 1911, and Allahabad in 1913. Gokhale aimed to recruit at least one "Servant of the India" for each of the country's 275 districts.
In the realm of education, the Society established the Elementary Education League in Madras and Allahabad, distributed pamphlets and brochures in regional languages and English, and arranged lectures to educate the public.
Schools were established in rural and industrial areas in Gujarat, and the Society took care of female literacy. Mobile library facilities were also provided in Allahabad, Madras, and Bombay. The Society also conducted successful University 'extension-lectures' in Bombay.
In terms of economic welfare, the Society worked on various co-operative movement schemes and helped to redeem the agriculturist's indebtedness in parts of Bombay, U.P., C.P., Madras, and the East Coast. The Society's far-reaching accomplishments included training poverty-stricken villagers in self-reliance.
The Indian Economic Society was launched in Bombay to research economics, gather data of economic significance, and produce literature that would help improve conditions.
The Servants of India Society has its branches all over the country which carry out various social welfare activities. The Headquarters of the society is at Pune, with Branches at Mumbai, Nagpur, Cuttack, Chennai, Allahabad, and Bazpur.
